The Victor Trio
The VICTOR TRIO was named for VICTOR ALLER. His solo recordings with orchestra are but three: the Dohnanyi Variations on a Nursery Tune; the Shostakovich Concerto for Piano with Trumpet and String Ensmble; and Hindemith's The Four Temperaments. Yet they have influenced pianists in their interpretations of these works ever afterward.
VICTOR ALLER , who died in 1977, offers a perfect example of a musician with an underground reputation. He is greatly respected by solo artists and discriminating listeners who know his work today from his original Capitol LP recordings of the 1950's (with the Hollywood String Quartet) which include the Brahms Piano Quintet; the complete Brahms Piano Quartets; the Schumann Piano Quintet; the Shostakovich Piano Quintet; and the Franck Piano Quintet. These performances with this magnificent pianist are among their finest recordings. It is through many of these re-issued recordings that he can be judged fairly as the neglected master that he was.
